The Children's Defense Fund's Southern Regional Office (CDF/SRO) is the fiscal agent for SRBWI and is the regional administrator and state lead organization in Mississippi. The Federation of Community Controlled Child Care Centers of Alabama (FOCAL) is state lead in Alabama, and the Southwest Georgia Project for Community Education is state lead in the Georgia Black Belt.
Across the Black Belt in Alabama and Georgia and the Delta in Mississippi, these three organizations work with more than 2,500 women and young women as they create and pursue solutions to poverty and injustice through training, information and technical assistance, and asset development to improve the quality of life in their communities. This work is captured under the program areas of: Human Capacity Building and Lifting Women Out of Poverty. The women have connected across three states and formed a strong tri-state, regional network of informed women who understand the difference between feeling victimized and asserting their human rights.
